History of Jakarta is full of various events. It was a small fishing town. 1527 is considered the founding year of Jakarta. In the 17^th century the city served as capital of the Dutch West Indies and was named Batavia. Reminders of this period have survived in the northern part of the city. In 1945, it became a capital of Indonesian republic and in 1949, Batavia was renamed in Jakarta.

Today, it is a place of special atmosphere and well-developed hotel infrastructure. Historical “kernel” of the city is cut by numerous canals; there are preserved constructions of the 17^th – 18^th centuries.
